about

The album distills a lifetime of extra-musical experience and readings, in particular Gnostic texts, Philip K Dick, and the alchemical phases of the Magnum Opus, starting with the initial Nigredo; a fundamental step, that was also chosen as the main image for the album artwork.
The title, "The Black Iron Prison", is drawn from the Philip K Dick concept of an all-pervasive system of social control; a description that is particularly apt and meaningful in 2020.

It was recorded in complete solitude at Thighpaulsandra's Aerial Studio in Wales, using a heavily processed electric bass, synthetizers, sampler and, of course, mixer, and recorder.

Massimo Pupillo is a bassist and a composer. Known to be the bassist of the band ZU (with whom he released 15 albums) he collaborated on many art projects, from jazz to improvisation, from avant-garde to noise with dozens of world famous musicians.
